with great power comes great responsibility

for the first time i have realized just how my actions impact others... from people entrusting me with the education of their children.. to dropping into peoples' lives.. it's interesting as i have been aware of this in doing massage, but never really thought about it that much in everyday things.. and suddenly i find myself, impacting others.. maybe it's more apparent here as Prague wears her heart on her sleeve (yes, that's one of the reasons i am feeling so home here!)

this realization has made me really think and look at my life.. what i want, what i need.. and how that works into the lives of those around me..

No, darling - not Prague making you aware! Just age, and perhaps a little less focus on self! I am reminded continually, especially when it comes to the kids I run into that I have taught and or had "in custody" as it were!

Long Time... No Post

Greetings Gentle Readers... it's been a while.. and in the mean time.. spring has SPRUNG!!! Flowers blooming, buds on trees, birds singing and the short skirts are out (the Prague girls where something a bit larger than a wide belt as a skirt, about 7" to 10" in length). It's odd that they do that given the Easter tradition here.. on Easter Monday, village boys go from door to door demanding Easter eggs, sweets and often shots of slivovice (very STRONG plum liqueur) - they threaten to whip the girls with whips made from braided willow switches, so I am sure that applied with full force, they can leave a nasty welt. But it's all done in good fun.. the girls can retaliate by dumping buckets of water on the boys. It's a fun game and is supposed to guarantee a successful year for the men! I think the pagan origins of this are obvious, men coming to ask women for their eggs... hmmmm. Have been making a real effort to learn the language, it's hard.. the of...

chapter 2 - early october to ........

Ahoj (yup that's how you say hi here, Ahoy!) NOTE: this was written over the course of about 2 weeks!!! sorry for all the weird tenses.. but the Czechs are rubbing off on me! Well, I have survived my TEFL course!!! Basically, if you show up and survive, you get the certification, which is kind of an insult to real teachers. When I think of some of the kids in my course who don't even speak English properly, teaching Czechs English, it's just so sad.... (note, very nice to be typing on an English keyboard, as I am composing this on my laptop to be sent later from a cafe. The Czech keyboards have some different things going on!) Oh other side note, sitting here watching TV and an ad for Jamisons Whiskey was just on... very odd... Czech commericals are very odd or very funny. There is one for Seznam.cz, which is the Czech Yahoo, sort of... anyway, their ad campaign is always to check their first so you will be informed.. so there is this ad with a very well-dressed couple...
