Alas gentle readers, I have been lax
Greetings from the Golden City -- The past month has been quite busy, getting used to a new schedule, with many new classes to teach - Ah, my Andel, she sends me the most interesting students... the stories they have, all insights to this lovely country.
Was just back in the States for a week.. quite the whirlwind.. very odd, didn't feel like I had left, which was strange.. odd to understand everyone, everywhere and not have to translate signs - Brain had a lockdown when my mom and I went shopping in a Mexican market, and I had to ask the guys behind the meat counter for things in Spanish!!! Like asking for turkey breast, which I could have done in Czech! My brain just melted....
I have found a new description of Prague.. that she is a voluptuous whore, spread out over the Vlatava, inviting you to come and taste her pleasures - Slowly and sumptuously - Ah that is it.. If Los Angeles is all tarted up in big hair, tight clothes and 4 inch heels, then Prague is in a very expensive La Perla pegnoire, with mules with feather trim!
Well my cultural education continues... the things one can learn about a culture from learning the language is really amazing - My big joke a couple of weeks ago was that the Czechs have two words for "love" there is the verb "to love" which is milovat and the noun, "love" which is laska. So I said this to my students that Czechs needed two words for love because they are such romantics! They all laughed and agreed!
There is such a softness in both the sound and the structure to the language that comes through in the gentleness of the people, though they may be a bit standoffish to begin with.. there is an inherent gentleness. I missed hearing Czech in the short time I was back in the States.
Adventures continue... this American gal continues to be charmed by foreign men... Sorry my American brothers, but even the kindest of you don't hold a candle to the charm that abounds elsewhere.. and there are so many flavours of charm! And it is even more disarming by the directness with which it is doled out! A few smiles and "kneesies" under the table can very quickly become " may I please go home with you?" - None of this can I have your number and waiting the "right " amount of days to call, nope, just simple and direct! And all with a large dose of charm! Don't worry boys, the girls here are just as direct - but not so charming.. just harsh and direct. Funny in a patriarchal culture that the men are MUCH softer than the women!
Well, dear reader... I am suffering from lack of sleep on the American homefront, coupled with a bit of jet lag.. so of to bed I must go... Word for the day will resume
Until we meet again... na shladanou
